Police are appealing for information after five masked men forced their way into an elderly couple's home in east Belfast on Wednesday evening.

The masked men told two occupants, who are both in their 80s, to remain in the living room whilst the men searched the house before leaving.

Detective Sergeant Natalie Moore said: “It is not believed anything was taken during the incident, which has been very distressing for the victims."

“Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1494 of 13/01/21.

“Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop this and any other form of crime."
