A MAN has died in a road crash involving a lorry in Co Antrim yesterday morning.

The man was driving a car which was in collision with a lorry on the Carrickfergus Road, close to the Ballylagan Road, Ballynure, at around 9.15am.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person was taken to hospital following the crash.

The Ambulance Service said it received a report of the crash at 9.19am yesterday and sent two crews to the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to the Antrim Area Hospital by ambulance," a spokesman said.

Police remained at the scene of the crash yesterday afternoon.

The Ballylagan Road and Carrickfergus Road were closed for several hours following the fatal collision.

The man is the third person to die on the roads so far this year.

Lucy McIlhatton (24), from west Belfast, died on Sunday January 3 after she was knocked down by a silver Toyota Avensis as she walked along the Springfield Road in the city.

On January 5, a woman died following a two-vehicle crash on Newcastle Road in Ballynahinch, Co Down.
