A MAN who died from injuries sustained in a quad back accident has been remembered as a hard working and popular man.

Ballycastle man Ciaran Devlin, who was in his forties, was a farmer whose family has strong GAA links.

It is understood that Mr Devlin came off his quad bike on Ballyvennaght Road in Ballycastle on Sunday afternoon.

The incident was reported to police shortly before 3.50pm.

The charity Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene, landing in a field close to the road.

Mr Devlin was taken to hospital for treatment but died on Monday afternoon.

Several GAA clubs have paid tribute to Mr Devlin in family notices.

Among them were McQuillan GAC in Ballycastle where his sister Patricia was a member and niece Nuala a senior player.

The committee and members of Glen Rovers GAC and camogie club in Armoy also expressed their deep regret.

Independent councillor Padraig McShane spoke of his sadness.

"Ciaran Devlin was a popular individual who always enhanced any company he was in. A hard working man who was often seen with his father and other farmers in the Glens," he said.

"The loss of Ciaran will resonate all the more powerfully owing to his popularity. I wish to extend my sympathies and the sympathies of the local community to the family and friends of Ciaran at this most difficult of times."

Sinn Féin councillor Cara McShane said Mr Devlin was renowned throughout north Antrim and "extremely popular among the farming community".

"Many people have described him to be as one of the greatest stockmen, a great worker from a well respected family," Ms McShane said.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have been on the Ballyvennaght Road and saw the man on the bike prior to when the collision was reported, or has dash cam footage, to get in touch.

"We are working to establish exactly what occurred and would ask anyone with information to call 101, and quote reference number 1202 of 20/12/20," a spokesman said.

It is the second fatal quad bike accident in Ballycastle in recent months.

In May, Clare Smyth (35) and her youngest child Bethany (3) died after their bike was in collision with a tractor close to the family farm.
