BBC Northern Ireland has appointed Enda McClafferty as its political editor.

A former journalist with The Irish News, Donegal-born Mr McClafferty succeeds Mark Devenport who left the BBC in October.

The former Radio Foyle Breakfast presenter has worked as political correspondent for BBC NI since 2016.

Speaking about his appointment, he said: "It’s a fascinating time in politics as we emerge from the pandemic and navigate our way through the outcome of Brexit.

"There is a great team in the politics unit and we look forward to keeping audiences up to date with the latest stories affecting their lives.

“It was a privilege to work alongside our previous political editor Mark Devenport and he has left big shoes to fill."

Mr McClafferty joined the BBC in March 2000 and has since worked as a reporter on Spotlight as well as stand-in presenter on the Nolan Show.
