A 29-year-old man has been arrested after a "vigilant householder's" report of an attempted burglary led to a massive police operation.

Officers were called to Salisbury Avenue in north Belfast shortly before 1pm yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Hollie McCartan said they had been given a detailed description of the suspect and officers from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, Auto Crime Team, CID and the Automatic Number Plate Recognition unit were sent in, along with a police dog and handler.

"Through their combined and coordinated efforts, managed to locate the suspect and make an arrest following a foot chase through the area," she said.

The man was last night in custody and being questioned by police.
