STUDENTS and staff at a college that shares dining facilities with a school closed by a Covid-19 outbreak are isolating after testing positive.

Southern Regional College's (SRC) Portadown campus remains open while the neighbouring Craigavon Senior High School has shut.

On Monday, pupils from the high school's Portadown campus began learning from home for two weeks.

The school took the decision to close after almost 50 pupils tested positive in just four days.

SRC's campuses will continue to operate. Where online delivery is not possible, face-to-face classes are continuing.

Figures for the week ending November 13 show that six college students tested positive and 11 were isolating. There were a further two positive cases among staff with four isolating.

SRC and the school share facilities including a canteen.

In an email to staff, Chief Executive Brian Doran said the college had been liaising with the school and had "cleaned all areas on the Portadown campus occupied by students over the last week".

In a statement posted on its website, SRC said its Portadown campus was "not affected by the cluster of positive cases reported in the school".

"Therefore the college remains open, and those students scheduled to be in class, should still attend as required," it said.

"We are able to reassure our students and their parents/guardians that we have been liaising with the school and have undertaken additional cleaning on our campus. We continue to monitor the situation and should any additional measures be required, students will be notified."
