A 25-year-old man was arrested following a police chase through south Belfast on Saturday morning.

Officers on East Bridge Street signalled for a silver Mercedes to stop but the car drove on.

It sped along Ormeau Avenue, Dublin Road and Donegall Road before being was involved in a crash with two other cars at the junction of Sandy Row at around 11.45am.

The female driver of one of the other cars was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of offences including dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. He was later released on bail.

A spokesman appealed to two pedestrians who were at the traffic lights at the junction of Donegall Road and Sandy Row at the time to contact them on 101.

The Police Ombudsman has been informed of the crash, as is normal procedure.
