THE theft of flowers from a graveyard in Co Tyrone has been described as “despicable”.

It has been claimed that the tributes have been taken from graves adjacent to St Mary’s and St Joseph’s Church at Brackaville, near Coalisland, in recent weeks.

It has been reported that similar thefts have taken place from a graveyard in nearby Clonoe.

It is not known if the incidents are linked.

Independent councillor Dan Kerr last night said he has been inundated with calls from distraught relatives and suggested there may also have been thefts from a graveyard in Dungannon.

He believes as many as 15 graves may have been targeted in recent weeks.

The Coalisland-based councillor said some people have been deeply impacted by the theft of loving tributes left on the graves of relatives.

“It’s very traumatic for family members to visit their deceased loved ones to find possession going missing,” he said.

“Such behaviour is despicable."

He made a direct appeal to those responsible.

“I would call in the people or person responsible to desist immediately," he said.

“Imagine if this was happening to one of your loved ones, how would you feel?”
