ACTOR Liam Neeson has invited people to join a virtual fundraising concert in support of children and their families helped by the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.

The Ballymena-born star said he hopes members of the public will back the charity's 'Big Night In 2020' - an online gala featuring a host of local and national celerities.

In a video message filmed in Hollywood, Neeson launched details of the event which will feature legendary singer/songwriter Phil Coulter, musical star Peter Corry, former Boyzone singer Shane Lynch, comedian William Caulfield, former world champions Field Marshall Montgomery Pipe Band and Riverdance star Lauren Smyth.

"We are all living through challenging times at the moment as the result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic - individuals, businesses and charitable organisations have all been impacted.

"Some friends have joined together to raise much needed funds for the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice," he said.

"Northern Ireland's 'Big Night In 2020' is an online virtual concert which will be broadcast live on Facebook on Friday 4 December 2020 from 7pm.

"The concert will include a host of local and national celebrities volunteering their time in support of this very worthwhile cause.

"This is Liam Neeson inviting you to tune in and make a donation in aid of the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.

"Together we can help improve the lives of children and their families who need our support now more than ever in these challenging times."

Organiser Marie Reynolds said: "The 'Big Night In 2020' is the creation of the NI Hospice Ballymena Support Group aimed at raising funds for the only Children’s Hospice in Northern Ireland.

"What started out as a local fundraising event has grown to include local and international stars, pledging their support and offering performances on the night.

"It’s going to be a very exciting night. We’re receiving support, not only across Northern Ireland, but also from England, America and Canada.

"We are confident that our star-studded line up will raise public spirits in these challenging times, at the same time raising much needed funds for a very worthy cause."

Heather Weir from the NI Hospice said: "Once again we are humbled by our amazing supporters.

"We know everyone is going through a really hard time at the moment and the fact that local people, artists and businesses are volunteering their time, especially at this time is absolutely amazing."
