THE leaders of Ireland's main churches have come together virtually to "remember the sacrifice made by so many" ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

In a specially recorded joint video message, the leaders of the Catholic, Church of Ireland, Methodist and Presbyterian Churches in Ireland, and the Irish Council of Churches (ICC) reflect on the lives lost in the two world wars and other conflicts.

In the video message, they also acknowledge the deep sense of loss felt by those who have lost loved ones to coronavirus and have not been able to grieve fully.

Catholic Primate, Archbishop of Armagh Eamon Martin, Presbyterian Moderator Rt Rev Dr David Bruce, Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh Most Rev John McDowell, President of the Methodist Church Rev Dr Tom McKnight and Very Rev Dr Ivan Patterson, President of the ICC all appear in the video

The clerics each filmed their footage separately in their studies, offices and places of worship last week.

The video also features the music of Edward Elgar’s 'Nimrod' from the composer’s ‘Enigma Variations’ - a reflective piece of music that has for many years been associated with various acts of remembrance.
