Members of a Co Down GAA club have left "delighted" after a Hollywood actor signed a number of its jerseys while filming in the area.

Atticall GAA, which is based in the village of Atticall in the Mourne Mountains near Kilkeel, received the "exciting" gift from Alex Skarsgard, who was recently in the area shooting scenes for `The Northman'.

The 44-year-old Swedish actor, who has starred in a host of movies including The Legend of Tarzan, The Aftermath and Battleship, is one a host of well-known stars who were recently in the area.

A huge movie production team descended on the area of The Windy Gap, the highest peak in the Western Mournes, to shoot scenes for the Viking revenge saga, which is set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century.

The film, directed by Robert Eggers, also stars Nicole Kidman, Willem Defoe, Ethan Hawke, and Icelandic singer Björk.

The stars, who were reportedly staying in the Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle, were flown to the set each day by helicopter.

Atticall GAA have now revealed they were touched by a little bit of Hollywood glamour.

The club said while members had been "unable to peg down Nicole" it's chairman, Paul Grant "was in contact with the Location Manager for the production and he gave her a few club jerseys to get signed...

The club added: "It was exciting for our club when our club chairman Paul received them back on Saturday morning signed by Alexander Skarsgard who plays the leading role in the Northman film.

"Atticall GAC wish them all the best with the rest of their production!!"

Signing the jerseys, Mr Skarsgard wrote: "Much love from your green and white brothers of Hammarby, Stockholm".

The message is believed to be a reference to Hammarby Football Club, which is based in the actor's home city of Stockholm and of which he is said to be a fan.
