AN 18-year-old driver who died following a collision with a cow has been named as Josh Fletcher from Moira.

The teenager was driving on the Moira Road outside Lisburn at around 3am when the crash happened.

His vehicle left the road and he died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Police yesterday cordoned off the road as investigators worked at the scene of the crash.

Appealing for witnesses to come forward, Sergeant Jonny Mackenzie said: "We are currently conducting a number of follow up enquiries into the collision.

"Josh was travelling in the direction of Moira, between the junctions with the Bushfield Road and the Moyrusk Road, when the collision took place, and I would ask anyone who travelled along this stretch of road in the time leading up to the collision to contact police with any information or dash-cam footage they may have."

DUP councillor Caleb McCready said: "The community will be absolutely reeling at the news of the loss of such a young life on our roads.

"The thoughts of the people of Moira and beyond are with the family of young Josh as they struggle to cope at this immensely difficult time."
