POLICE are investigating video footage of a car being driven at high speed through a town centre in Co Antrim.

The footage, which was posted on social media, was last night described as "extremely dangerous racing" by a local MLA.

It shows a silver BMW driving through the streets of Ballyclare, veering from side to side, which is known as drifting. It involved the driver intentionally over-steering the vehicle in order to achieve a drift state.

The video appears to have been filmed by a passenger in another car travelling in front of the BMW and also being driven at high speed.

DUP assembly member Pam Cameron last night described the actions of those involved as "stupid and reckless".

She said she would contacting police "about the videos circulating of extremely dangerous racing in Ballyclare town centre recently".

"Putting themselves and others at risk," she added.

A PSNI spokeswoman last night said: "Police are aware of the video and are investigating".
