A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been charged over an assault on a council employee and two police officers in the Holylands area of south Belfast.

He was also issued with a £1,000 fine for breach of the Covid-19 travel quarantine restrictions.

Another man aged 20 was arrested for disorderly behaviour.

It comes amid concerns of disorder in the mainly student area, with crowds of young people gathering outside houses and drinking in the street.

Officers responded to 13 calls about activities in the Holylands on Monday evening, and they issued one community resolution notice and a fixed penalty notice.

A prohibition notice was also served on the residents of one property.

Chief Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick said they have been "vocal in our warnings to young people" and will "take action" where they see breaches of Covid-19 regulations, anti-social or criminal behaviour.
