Another 85 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland, the Department of Health has said.

It brings the seven-day total to 431.

No new deaths were reported.

The total number of cases in the north has now passed 7,000 and stands at 7,049.

In hospitals, 17 patients have tested positive for Covid-19, two of whom have been vintilated in intensive care.

There are 15 confirmed outbreaks of coronavirus in care homes and a further six suspected outbreaks.

Earlier today, the latest update from the Northern Ireland Statistical and Research Agency (Nisra) revealed that the total number of Covid-19 related deaths in the north to August 21 was 871.

This compares with the 560 recorded by the Department of Health.

The department's figures are based on patients having previously tested positive for the virus, whereas the Nisra figures are based on the information entered on death certificates, completed by medical professionals. They may or may not have previously tested positive for the virus.
