A further 72 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the north in the past 24 hours, the Department of Health has said.

It brings the total number of infections to 6,895.

Nine patients in the north's hospitals have tested positive for coronavirus, one of whom has been ventilated in intensive care.

There are 12 Covid-19 outbreaks in care homes and a further five suspected outbreaks.

The figures were released after two coronavirus clusters were identified in Craigavon Area Hospital.

A consultant based at the hospital has warned of the inevitably of further clusters in healthcare settings.

Meanwhile, a further 164 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland, the National Public Health Emergency Team said.

No new deaths were reported.
