Police appeal for mobile footage after man stabbed in north Belfast street disturbance

POLICE have appealed for mobile phone footage of a north Belfast street disturbance that left a man in a critically condition.

The man, aged in his fifties, was discovered with stab wounds in the Orchard Street area of Tigers Bay after police responded to reports of a group of people fighting in the early hours of Saturday.

A woman was also assaulted.

Police said a large number of people were in the area at the time.

The man was rushed to hospital by paramedics with stab wounds to his back.

The woman, in her twenties, was also taken to hospital with head injuries.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault on police and possession of a blade and remained in custody yesterday.

A 35-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of disorderly behaviour and was released on bail pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

Police said: “We know there were large numbers of people in the area, around the time this assault was reported to us, and I want to appeal to anyone who was there and who witnessed what occurred, or who may have footage of it, to get in touch by calling 101.”
