SINN Féin and Michael Gove have both played down Michelle O'Neill's failure to meet the British cabinet minister during his visit to the north yesterday.

Mr Gove, who in 2000 wrote a 58-page document attacking the Good Friday Agreement and likening the accord to the appeasement of the Nazis, insisted he was not snubbed by the deputy first minister, saying the "logistics of the visit required changing for a number of reasons".

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster met First Minister Arlene Foster yesterday morning at Hillsborough Castle.

A Sinn Féin spokesman said Ms O'Neill was not available to meet Mr Gove, due to the short notice given for his visit. However, the spokesman said the pair did speak on the phone on Thursday.
