A 23-year-old man last night remained in police custody following the murder of a woman in Newry.

Patrycja Wyrebek (20) was found dead at her home in Drumalane Park on Sunday morning.

It is understood her body was found lifeless in a bath at around 8.30am.

Tributes have been paid to the young woman, who is believed to be originally from the Siedlce area of Poland.

She was described as a "quiet girl" whose death was a "tragic loss of young life".

Police arrested the 23-year-old man on Sunday close to the house.

On Monday, police said they had launched a murder probe.

Detective Inspector Mark Gibson appealed for information.

"My thoughts are very much with Patrycja's family and friends at this extremely sad time," he said.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the Drumalane Park area of Newry between 8.30pm on Saturday, 1 August and 8.30am on Sunday, 2 August and who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101."
