Police are investigating after shots were fired at a parked car in south Armagh last night.

It happened at Castle View in Jonesborough shortly after 11.25pm.

Police said a dark-coloured Audi A4 arrived in the area and a man with a hood over his face got out of the car before firing a number of shots at a black Nissan X-Trail parked outside a house.

A woman in her 50s and four children who were in the property at the time were not injured.

Detective Inspector Handley said: “The suspect vehicle was later recovered in the area of Thistle Court by An Garda Siochána, having been set alight and completely destroyed.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances, in what was an extremely distressing incident for those inside the house."

Police have appealed for information.
