Forty six fire fighters and 12 appliances are fighting a blaze in a grain shed at Foyle Port in Derry.
Smoke from the fire can be seen for miles across the city and beyond and people living nearby have been asked to stay indoors, with the doors and windows closed.
Port Road is closed as the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) Group Commander William Johnston said 46 fire fighters and 12 appliances are dealing with the fire, including aerial appliances and a command support vehicle.
“Crews are currently involved in firefighting activity to contain a fire within a large grain shed and are working closely with the Harbour Master to deal with the situation.
“We would ask everyone to avoid the area to allow our crews to combat the fire and local residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed.”
Foyle Port said it was "aware of an incident that has taken place in one of the sheds on the Foyle Port site and are carrying out all appropriate procedures".
"The emergency services are now at the Port and dealing with the incident,” it added.
Fire seems to be in a grain shed at Foyle Port in Lisahally. Plume of smoke so big it's gone across the river to the Culmore area and can be seen in Donegal. Fire officers are at the scene. Hopefully will be sorted soon. People advised to close their windows in the area pic.twitter.com/EnlxRo8HVL
