Man dies after one-vehicle road crash in Derry

A MAN has died following a one-vehicle road crash in Derry.

Police said the collision happened on the Rock Road in the city shortly before 6am yesterday.

A PSNI spokesman said "the sole occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital where, sadly, he was pronounced dead".

The name or age of the man has not been released.

The Northland Road remained closed for a time following the crash.

PSNI Inspector Rory Bradley last night appealed to "anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who captured it on their dash cam, to contact police".

Assembly member Karen Mullan said the man's death has caused shock in the local community.

"This death is a tragedy and will bring sadness to all those involved," she said.

"Any death on our roads is one too many.

"I want to express my sympathy to the friends and family of the man who lost his life at this sad and difficult time."
