Coronavirus: Two further deaths reported

Two further people have died from coronavirus, according to the Department of Health

Two further people have died from coronavirus, according to the latest figures from the Department of Health.

One of the deaths was reported within the last 24 hours.

The death toll in the north has risen to 556, according to the department.

A total of 16 people have tested positive for the virus since the last departmental update on Friday afternoon.

There have been 30 positive tests reported in the past seven days.

Daily death figures released by the Department of Health mainly cover coronavirus fatalities in hospital.

According to figures released by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) last week, a total of 839 have died from the disease.

Nisra records all deaths where Covid-19 is mentioned on a death certificate.

In the Republic, no new coronavirus-related deaths were reported on Monday, leaving the total at 1,746, the National Public Health Emergency Team said.

As of midnight on July 12, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has been notified of 11 confirmed cases of Covid-19. There is now a total of 25,639 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Republic.
