Coronavirus deaths have continued to drop, according to new figures.

A total of 12 deaths were recorded between June 13 and June 19, compared to 20 fatalities in the previous week.

The total number of people who have died from coronavirus now sits at 816, newly-released figures from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) show.

Of the 816 deaths, 420 (51.5%) happened in hospital, 340 (41.7%) in care homes, eight (1.0%) in hospices and 48 (5.9%) at residential addresses or other locations.

A total of 78 separate care homes and hospices recorded deaths.

The number of deaths recorded by Nisra is substantially higher than the 545 recorded by the Department of Health.

Daily death figures released by the department mainly cover coronavirus fatalities in hospital.

Weekly figures released by Nisra record all deaths where Covid-19 is mentioned on a death certificate.

A total of 340 residents died in a care home, while the remaining 74 died in hospital.

People aged 75 and over accounted for around 80% of all coronavirus deaths.

People living in Belfast accounted for almost 30% (238) of the 812 deaths registered.
