Another person has died in the north after contracting coronavirus, the Department of Health has said.

The total number of people who have died from Covid-19 now stands at 546, according to the department.

There were no new coronavirus cases, meaning the total recorded by laboratories across the north since the outbreak began remains at 4,871.

It is only the second time since March 3 that no new cases have been recorded.

Daily death figures released by the department mainly cover coronavirus fatalities in hospital.

The figures were released after British prime minister Boris Johnson announced that lockdown regulations in England are to be relaxed with the two-metre social distancing rule to be relaxed to one metre from July 4.

Mr Johnson encouraged people to “do their patriotic best for Britain” and head to the pubs when they reopen on July 4.

First Minister Arlene Foster tweeted: “Very significant announcement. I was speaking with the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster @michaelgove in advance of this announcement.

“Important for NI Executive to consider the science of this decision. Glad HMG will share it. From 2-1m is transformational for many sectors.”
