A 30-year-old man was last night being questioned by police following two burglaries in east Belfast.

Police said two residential properties off the Woodstock Road were targeted on Sunday.

Inspector Pete Cunningham said: "Just after 5pm, we received a report from a householder that they had returned to their property to find it had been entered and ransacked.

"As local officers responded, we received another call from the resident of a nearby property, reporting that they had disturbed a male trying to gain access to the kitchen door of their property.

"The male made off, but the householder called police straight away with a description of the male.

"Officers located a 30-year-old male matching the description a short distance away and following some enquiries and recovery of a number of items, he was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences."
