POLICE investigating the death of a motorcyclist following a 'hit-and-run' crash in Co Tyrone have appealed for the driver of a BMW to come forward.

The 21-year-old man died after a crash on Meenacloy Road near Castlederg at about 11am on Sunday.

He was riding an orange Kawaski motorcycle when it was involved in a collision with a black BMW vehicle, police said.

Detective Inspector Michael Winters said the BMW did not stop following the crash and is believed to have driven on towards Ederney.

"I would firstly like to ask the driver of the BMW to examine their conscience and to come forward to police to explain what happened," he said.

"It is likely that the BMW would have sustained damage due to the collision and I would therefore like to speak with anyone who is approached to repair this vehicle."

Mr Winters also appealed for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage of the crash to phone police on 101, quoting reference 958 of 31/05/20.

Sinn Féin councillor Kieran McGuire said the route where the fatal crash occurred is a "pretty dangerous stretch of road".

"People around here are really shocked about it. To think that someone would just drive on, it adds to it," he said.

He expressed his condolences with the crash victim's family and appealed for the driver of the BMW or anyone with information to come forward.

"Someone has lost their life. I would just appeal for anyone who has seen anything, or the black BMW, to come forward and make themselves known," he added.
