A woman and two men escaped uninjured after shots were fired at their house in Coleraine early today.

Several shots were fired at the front door and a window of the house on Danes Hill Road in the Co Derry town shortly before 1.30am.

A man and a woman in their sixties and a man in his twenties were in the house at the time.

A police spokesman said they had been left "badly shaken by this reckless act, which could have had devastating results".

"There is absolutely no place for attacks like this in society, and I am appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident to call us," he said.

He said police are trying to establish a motive for the attack.

He appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to contact officers on 101.
