A man and a woman have escaped uninjured after a petrol bomb was thrown at their house in south Belfast early this morning.

The attack happened at a house on Downhill Avenue in the Belvoir area around 1.45am.

The front door of the house's porch was significantly damaged in the arson attack.

The Fire Service put out the blaze.

A police spokesman said had the fire "not been extinguished so quickly, the consequences could have been devastating".

He appealed to anyone with information to contact officers on 101.
