A police officer was treated in hospital after his car was rammed at high speed on the M22 between Randalstown and Toome yesterday afternoon.

A PSNI patrol clocked a blue BMW speeding along the M22 at around 5.20pm.

The car failed to stop.

A police car gave chase but the driver of the BMW continued to speed on, before ramming his car into the police vehicle.

The police car was forced off the motorway. The police driver was treated in hospital for extensive whiplash injuries.

The BMW was abandoned in a layby on the Moneynick Road. The driver is thought to have run off across the fields towards the Staffordstown Road.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who captured footage is asked to contact police on 101.
