A woman in her twenties was kicked and punched repeatedly in an attack in Belfast city centre last night.

It was reported to police at around 9pm that a woman had been approached by two men an a woman and was attacked by one man on Fountain Street.

The woman suffered head and facial injuries and received hospital treatment.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a class C controlled drug and remains in police custody.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
