SINGER Sir Tom Jones is to play a date in Belfast just a few days before his 80th birthday.

The veteran Welsh crooner will play at Botanic Gardens on May 31, followed by a second Irish date at The Marquee in Cork on June 2.

Famous for hits including Delilah, It's Not Unusual and What's New Pussycat?, the singer has had a career spanning six decades.

He has reached new audiences in his role as a coach and mentor on ITV's The Voice UK, alongside fellow singers will.i.am, Olly Murs and Meghan Trainor.

His last album, Long Lost Suitcase, a series of covers of songs by artists including Willie Nelson and Hank Williams, won him several warm reviews.

The Grammy and Brit award-winner, from south Wales will celebrate his 80th birthday on June 7.

Sir Tom last played Belfast in 2015.

His show at the Waterfront Hall earned rave reviews.

The long-time Los Angeles resident returned to live in London several years ago following the death of his wife Melinda Woodward.

Tickets for the Belfast and Cork shows go on sale from Ticketmaster at 9am on Thursday.
