Samaritans hold Belfast event to recruit more volunteers

The Belfast branch of the Samaritans is to hold an information night next month in a bid to recruit new volunteers.

The charity is looking for people who have a "few spare hours a week".

Located at Wellesley Avenue in south Belfast, near Queen's University, the Belfast branch of the Samaritans wants to attract more volunteers to ensure they can continue to offer the service to the local community and beyond.

The branch is holding an information night in its Belfast branch on Monday, February 3 at 7pm.

Anyone interested can register by calling 028 9038 1133 or by emailing belfast@samaritans.org

Samaritans offers round-the-clock emotional support for anyone feeling down, depressed, anxious or unhappy.

Patti Hayes, Director of Recruitment in the Belfast branch said: "In addition to supporting our callers and by working together to support people struggling to cope, our branch is a rewarding place to spend your time.

"Not only do Samaritans provide expert training, you will become part of a great team of volunteers," he said.

Meanwhile, Alan Heron, Samaritans Regional Marketing Officer for Northern Ireland, said: "Samaritans also have seven other branches across Northern Ireland and they too will be looking to attract people to become volunteers near their local branches.

"Our branches are in Bangor, Newry, Craigavon, Omagh, Derry, Coleraine and Ballymena. Details of all our branches near where you live, can be found on our website at www.samaritans.org

"I’m certain that there are many people out there who would make wonderful Samaritans and could join us to help continue to provide the valuable emotional support that we have done for over 58 years in Northern Ireland".
