BUSINESSMAN Sean Quinn has given a statement to gardaí making claims relating to Quinn Industrial Holdings (QIH).

He met a senior officer at Carrick-on-Shannon station in Co Leitrim earlier this month, the Sunday Times reported yesterday.

The meeting is understood to have taken place on January 5.

In his statement, Mr Quinn said he wished to draw garda attention to issues about QIH.

He also placed on record his concern about comments by public figures suggesting he could be linked to attacks on the company, it has been reported.

Mr Quinn (72) has repeatedly condemned the attacks.

The Fermanagh businessman has also offered a further statement, if required, to assist both the gardaí and the PSNI.

Mr Quinn is thought to have contacted Leitrim gardaí – rather than Cavan officers who are investigating attacks on QIH – because he was previously questioned by Leitrim officers about a complaint by a QIH director.

The Sunday Times said Mr Quinn confirmed he had made a statement, but did not wish to comment further.

Repeated attacks on QIH have been carried out in recent years by people who have sought his return to the business.

The issue escalated in September when QIH director Kevin Lunney was abducted and tortured.

Mr Quinn, who lost control of his business empire amid Ireland's economic crash, has repeatedly condemned the attacks and insisted he and his family have no involvement with them.

The gardaí and PSNI set up a joint team last year as part of their investigations.
