Mourners will gather in Co Kildare tomorrow for the funeral of veteran broadcaster Marian Finucane.

The 69-year-old, who began her broadcasting career with RTE in 1974, died suddenly on Thursday at her home in Dublin.

Having originally qualified as an architect, Ms Finucane then moved into broadcasting.

Having started with RTÉ on Women Today, she then became a household name through her Liveline programme on RTÉ radio.

She then then took over the early morning slot with The Marian Finucane Show following the retirement of Gay Byrne in 1999.

In 2005, her RTÉ Radio 1 show moved to a Saturday and Sunday morning.

Dee Forbes, RTÉ Director General, said: "Ireland has lost a unique voice. RTÉ has lost a beloved colleague.

"From Women Today to Liveline to her weekday radio show on Radio 1 and, latterly, her enormously popular Saturday and Sunday radio programme, she tackled the big social issues of the day with command and insight."

Funeral Mass for Ms Finucane will take place at St Brigid's Church in Kill, Co Kildare, at 12pm tomorrow. A private burial will take place afterwards.
