CONOR Maskey is to return to Belfast City Council after being selected to replace newly-elected Sinn Féin MP John Finucane.

Mr Maskey previously served for six years as a representative for the Oldpark district electoral area but will replace the former lord mayor in the Castle area of north Belfast.

His co-option was prompted by Mr Finucane's election as MP for North Belfast, who has been replaced as mayor by Collin councillor Daniel Baker.

Mr Maskey, a nephew of Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey, stepped down from Belfast City Council in 2013 and has since worked for Belfast-based conflict resolution organisation Intercomm Ireland.
