TG4 pays tribute to Gradam Ceoil winner Arty McGlynn

The sponsors of the Gradam Ceoil, Lifetime Achievement Award have paid tribute to renowned guitarist Arty McGlynn who passed away this week.

Respected throughout the world of traditional music, Mr McGlynn was the recipient of the Gradam Ceoil TG4 Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

Having worked with all of the big names in traditional and folk music including Liam O’Flynn, Christy Moore, Dónal Lunny, Frances Black and The Van Morrison Band he had enjoyed a long and successful career.

Along with his partner Nollaig Casey he established a productive and successful career in performance, composition and arranging, releasing two highly acclaimed albums- Lead the Knave and Causeway.

Mr McGlynn died this week at the age of 75 after a long illness.

TG4 said they were "deeply saddened by the news of Arty McGlynn's passing".

"Arty was the recipient of the Gradam Ceoil TG4 Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016

"He was revered throughout the world of traditional music as a pioneering and influential guitarist".
