TWO men were being questioned last night on suspicion of murder over the death of a father-of-two in Portadown a week ago.

The victim has been named locally as Cecil Robert R ('Foggy') Ellis.

The body of the 49-year-old was discovered in his house at Clounagh Park shortly before 10am last Monday.

On Saturday, two men aged 18 and 24 were arrested on suspicion of murder following a number of searches in the Portadown area.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan from PSNI's Major Investigation Team said that following a post mortem "and due to subsequent information that we have received" a murder inquiry had been opened to find out how the victim died.

He said the two men arrested remain in custody where they were helping police with their enquiries.

Portadown DUP councillor Darryn Causby, who lives in the area, said the community was shocked at what had happened.

"My thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased. Our wee community at Clounagh Park is in shock and worried that something like this could happen on our own doorstep."

He described the victim as a quiet man "who kept himself to himself".

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart also said it was "an extremely sad situation".

"Anyone with information relating to this entire situation should contact the police," she said.

"The police are trying to understand the complete picture of what happened and they can only piece it together with the help of family, friends and neighbours."

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the Clounagh Park area between 10.30pm on Sunday December 8 and 9.45am on Monday December 9, and saw anything or anyone acting suspicious, to contact them.
