THERE were huge celebrations in Co Tyrone at the weekend as two of the county's best known GAA families were united in marriage.

A small church close to the Co Tyrone village of Ballygawley was the setting for the Harte and Canavan clans to come together on Saturday.

Hundreds of guests gathered at St Malachy's Church, Ballymacilroy as GAA legend Peter Canavan walked his daughter Áine down the aisle to wed Peter Harte, nephew of Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte.

The happy couple, both Tyrone footballers, exchanged vows in front of delighted family, friends and teammates.

A video posted on Facebook by Bennett Media shows Áine, dressed in an off-the-shoulder bridal gown, and Peter walking down the aisle.

The newlyweds later travelled to the Tullyglass House Hotel in Ballymena to celebrate their nuptials.

Other footage shows the couple posing for photographs after the ceremony and dancing at their wedding reception.

Bennett Media wrote alongside the video: "The lovely Áine Canavan & Peter Harte had the most gorgeous Irish winter wedding yesterday at Tullyglass House Hotel.

A primary six teacher at St Patrick's Primary School, Donaghmore, he played for Ireland in the 2015 International Rules Series and won a GAA All Star in 2016, as well as being named player of the year at the Irish News Ulster Allstars.

His wife Áine, a doctor, has also starred for the Tyrone and Errigal Ciaran ladies teams.
