A FUNDRAISING appeal for the grieving family of teenager Gracie Gordon had already received donations of more than £4,000 last night.

The 14-year-old died after she fell into the River Inver in her home town of Larne, Co Antrim, on Tuesday evening.

It is understood she slipped down a steep bank into the water after 9pm.

She was pulled from the fast-flowing river and taken to hospital but later died.

The teenager was a Year 10 pupil at St Killian’s College in Carnlough, Co Antrim.

Players from Larne Football Club, led by club captain Jeff Hughes, laid flowers at the river ahead of training yesterday morning.

"Everyone connected with Larne Football Club would like to offer their sincere condolences to the family of Gracie Gordon," a spokesman said.

"It has been clear that Gracie’s loss is felt right across the wider Larne community, and our thoughts are prayers with Gracie’s family in particular."

A fundraising page set up to help the teenager's family had last night raised more than £4,000.

The page was set up by friends and workmates of Gracie's mother, Danielle.

Organiser Ally McConnell wrote that the page had been established after people asked how they could offer practical help.

"Gracie lost her precious life in the most tragic circumstances," she said.

"Nothing any of us can do will take away the pain that the family are experiencing."
