CO Down golfer Rory McIlroy is house-hunting in Britain for a place to base himself during the summer months, according to reports.

The four-time Major champion is understood to be looking for a property in London or Wentworth.

Despite having previously based himself in the United States, the Holywood-born sportsman is reportedly making preparations to spend more time in England.

It is believed the 30-year-old is house-hunting with a view to spending time in the UK between May and October. The reports raise the prospect of the world number two playing more European Tour events.

McIlroy has previously described how he enjoys the pace of life in the United States, where his wife Erica Stoll also hails from.

"I have an American wife. I live in America," he said.

"Honestly, I enjoy it here more. The way of life is easier. The weather. The convenience."

It also comes after he sold his mansion in Florida last year for just under £10 million and bought a 17 000-square foot in West Palm Beach, Florida, which was previously owned by golfer Ernie Els.

The mansion is located near the Bear's Club, where several PGA Tour professionals practice.

McIlroy sold his bedroom house in Moneyreagh, Co Down in 2013.

Set in 14 acres of landscaped gardens, the five bedroom property had its own mini golf course and was bought at the time by property developer, Gary McCausland.

Just this month McIlroy, who is estimated to be be worth more than £130 million, picked up his fourth victory of the year at the World Golf Championship HSBC Champions event in Shanghai.
