PUPILS have been revealing their extensive knowledge of geography, history, maths and even Shrek the Musical in a TV quiz to find the smartest school.

A team of four from St Joseph's PS in Lisburn are appearing on the latest series of Top Class on CBBC.

Katie Longley, Molly Gribben, Euan Lappin and Daniel McNamara, who are now in Year 8, were chosen to represent St Joseph's, the only school from the north to qualify.

Presented by Susan Calman, children are quizzed on subjects taken from the national curriculum Key Stage 2, starting with a buzzer question.

The team which answers correctly takes control of the game and is given a further four questions to answer. The subjects includes maths, English, science, history, geography and news.

There is also Test the Teacher, where the class teacher answers pop-culture questions, and Pet Subjects, where the class chooses a subject to be questioned on. Subjects chosen by St Joseph's included Frozen and Shrek the Musical, which the pupils had performed at school.

Teacher Emma McCambridge said every P7 pupil was given the chance to win a place on the team.

"They had to have a good grasp of the curriculum as well as good outside interests," she said.

"You had to get children who were brilliant all-rounders and who did not get nervous in front of cameras. It was also about being quick on the buzzer and we did a lot of practice. We were asking a variety of questions and they would buzz, buzz, buzz."

:: St Joseph's PS v Cardenden PS in Fife will be broadcast on CBBC on Sunday October 27 at 9:30am.
