A WEST Belfast man who featured in The Irish News on his 100th birthday has died a week short of turning 104.

Paddy McGeough passed away peacefully in Fruithill Nursing Home on Wednesday, surrounded by his loving family.

In 2015, Mr McGeough was featured in the Irish News as he celebrated his milestone 100th birthday. He was due to turn 104 next Monday.

Born in Plevna Street on October 28, 1915, he went to Raglan Street School.

At the age of 14 he started working in the New Northern Mill, Northumberland Place, off the lower Falls Road as a bobbin threader.

He moved to Birmingham where he worked for the fire service during the Second World War.

He married Bridget McCourt on Christmas Day 1940 in St Mary’s Church in Belfast city centre and they had two sons John and Patsy.

Bridget passed away in January 1999.

In 2014, Mr McGeough moved to the Fruithill area of west Belfast, after previously living in the city centre.

Requiem Mass was celebrated yesterday at St Mary's Church with burial in the City Cemetery.

Mr McGeough is survived by his son Patsy, daughter-in-law Bernie and wider family circle.
