A suspected pipe bomb device will be "forensically examined to determine if it was viable" after being discovered underneath a car in west Belfast.

Homes in the Falcarragh Drive area of Lenadoon were evacuated as army technical officers cordoned off the area and removed the object at around 3.30pm yesterday.

It is understood the device had partially exploded before being removed.

A PSNI spokesman last night urged anyone with information on the incident to contact them, adding: "A pipe bomb type device has been recovered from the scene and will be forensically examined to determine it if was viable.

“All roads have reopened and residents permitted back to their homes.”
