A 41-year-old man arrested after the discovery of what has been described as an elaborate hoax bomb in Derry has been released.

The man was arrested under the Terrorism Act in connection with the incident at Beechwood Avenue on Monday night.

Police were called to the scene after an object was found in an alleyway.

A spokesman for the PSNI said “the incident remains under investigation”.

He added that the man has "been released pending a report to the public prosecution service for other offences".
