A CO Down cafe owner has been left "star struck" after singer Sinead O'Connor popped in for a coffee.

Sean Roberts, who owns Cafe 31 on Market Street in Downpatrick with his wife Natasha, said he was "over the moon" when the 52-year Nothing Compares 2U singer and her daughter called in yesterday morning for food and coffee.

Father-of-two Sean, who just opened the new business in August, said he was alerted to the celebrity's presence by another customer who pointed her out.

The Drumaness businessman said the singer and her daughter sat down at a table at around 10am.

"One of the customers came and said to me `This is a bit of a celebrity hangout'. I asked why? He said `Sinead O'Connor is sitting over there'."

Sean, who said he is a fan of the Dublin singer's music, then approached the performer.

"I went over to talk to them. Her daughter asked about vegan meals. The chef was down talking to her. He didn't recognise her either," Sean said.

"I just said `I can't believe you're here'. I was over the moon. I was star-struck. I love Sinead O'Connor. Some of the songs were even sung at my wedding."

Sean said his celebrity customer ordered a take-away coffee before happily posing with him and chef Marc Lavery before leaving.

"I still haven't washed the glass," he said.

He added: "We are over the moon. She loved the place. She was lovely".
