POLICE investigating arson attacks in west Belfast, believed to be linked to dissident republicans, have arrested three men.

A number of cars were set alight and destroyed in the Lagmore area on July 14 and 16.

The men - aged 24, 26 and 44 - were detained in Belfast yesterday by detectives from the PSNI Terrorism Investigation Unit.

"It is believed the attacks were carried out by a dissident republican group in the area," a PSNI spokesperson said.

"The investigation into these incidents and other violent dissident republican activity in the area is continuing and detectives would ask anyone with information which could assist them with their enquiries to contact them."
