IRISH officials have denied leaking Boris Johnson's Brexit proposals to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper revealed details of the British Prime Minister's plans, including measures to replace the contentious Irish backstop, ahead of its official unveiling today.

It has been reported that Downing Street has blamed officials in Dublin for the leak after details of the government’s formal Brexit proposals emerged in the media on Tuesday night.

It meant that the formal plans were made public before most of the Cabinet had been made aware of the proposals.

"We’ve no doubt Dublin is behind it because no other EU country had access to the details," a source at Downing Street told inews.

The source added that while the "fundamentals" of the plans were correct, there were certain elements of the proposals that were missing.

But Irish officials have denied any involvement in leaking the proposals, adding that they were left unimpressed by the aggressive "take it or leave it" tone from Mr Johnson.

Tánaiste Simon Coveney described the proposals as "fundamentally flawed".
