Shadow Northern Ireland minister Stephen Pound gave away his selection of rebel tunes at Westminster yesterday.

The Labour MP, who is stepping down at the next general election, raised eyebrows when he set up a stall to clear out his catalogue at Portcullis House, an office building inside parliament.

The selection included a Christy Moore CD and another disk called ‘Irish Patriotic Songs’, which includes traditional ballads such Boolavogue and Banna Strand.

The collection also included the Wolfe Tones Greatest Hits.

One of Ireland’s best known bands, the group has been belting out rebel songs for more than half a century.

The MP also showed he is a fan of other genres with ageing rocker Meat Loaf also featuring among his favourites.

Mr Pound’s mother Dominica came from Mallow in Co Cork.

The popular MP has previously reported as saying “I am not Irish, but I am not English either, and I think that gives me a perspective and a bit more sensitivity than some of my colleagues.”

He caused controversy earlier this year when it emerged he was secretly turning a bust of Oliver Cromwell located in the House of Commons to face a wall.

Commons officials later moved the bust and installed an alarm.

Cromwell is a controversial figure and was responsible for the slaughter of hundreds Irish people in Drogheda and Wexford in 1649.
