County Tyrone cleric is new Church of Ireland bishop of Derry and Raphoe

A Co Tyrone-based cleric has been unveiled as the new Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe.

Archdeacon Andrew Forster is currently rector of Drumglass (Dungannon) in the Armagh diocese.

Ordained in 1992, he has previously served as chaplain and dean of residence at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Other ministries have included Ardboe, Drumcliffe, Elphin and Ardagh and Willowfield parish church in Belfast.

He succeeds Bishop Ken Good who retired as Bishop of Derry and Raphoe in May this year.

Married with three children, Archdeacon Forster holds a history degree from Queen’s.

The new bishop-elect said: “I am very much looking forward to beginning a new chapter in ministry and getting to know the diocese.”
